Summer Part 2 - More Cherry Festival!

We went back to the Cherry Festival with my friend and her kids for a day at the beach! As you can see here, the Twerp attempted to walk all over MP3...

The Kidlet and the Creep had tons of fun splashing in West Bay!

After some good beach time my friend had to go, so we went back downtown to (we thought) meet the authors of the Heroes A2Z* books (it was their publicist or something). While waiting for the book people the Kidlet had her face painted.

On our way back to the car we stopped at Hannah Lay Park on the Boardman River.

MP3 found out that pine cones make your hands sticky.

Perhaps it was the accumulated sap that unbalanced him and sent him tumbling down the hill? (he was fine, by the way. He came up laughing)

And the Kidlet got to feed the ducks. Or perhaps I should say that she got chased by the ducks?

At any rate, it was wonderful to spend time with friends and family!

*These books rock! They're about 3 kids from Traverse City with superhero powers that routinely save Traverse City and the rest of Michigan from Easter ghosts/attacking cherry trees/aliens serving ice cream/etc. I highly recommend them!

If a Tree Falls in Your Yard...Who Cleans it Up?

About 15 minutes after hearing a loud CRACK outside, we heard another CRACK and (felt) a THUMP. We now have 1/2 a tree less than before....

It covered half the road...

I used the Kidlet as a size reference...

It even crushed the electrical box in the ditch in front of our house. It's hard to see in this pic, but trust me, it's rather smooshed

After the fire dept. sent some people down to free up with road with their chainsaw, the electric company had to send people out to move the gigantic trunk off the box and replace it.

Now we're waiting for the country road people to come and chop up what's left, AND evaluate what's left of the tree still standing to see if it should be removed before it falls too. They better remove it...when it goes it's going to cover the entire road and take out the phone/cable lines too.

It so so weird to look out our front window and seeing the field across the street instead of just more maple trees. I can't wait for the rest of that tree to be gone too!
